Who holds my funds under the South African entity?

This article explains who holds your funds when you use services under the South African, clarifies the roles of the intermediary and the product supplier in fund custody and payment processing. Managed by Weltrade SA (PTY) Ltd

Weltrade SA (PTY) Ltd operates under South African regulation as a licensed intermediary. This means it facilitates onboarding, administration, and client interaction, but it does not hold, store, or custody your funds.

Who actually holds my funds?

Your trading funds are held by a product supplier, such as Weltrade Ltd or another authorised product supplier. This product supplier acts as the trading counterparty and is responsible for holding your funds in accordance with its own regulatory framework.

Weltrade SA (PTY) Ltd does not maintain your bank accounts and does not act as a depository. Its role is limited to intermediary and administrative services.

Does Weltrade SA (PTY) Ltd have access to my money?

No. Weltrade SA (PTY) Ltd does not have custody or control over your funds and cannot use your money for its own business operations. All fund movements are processed through the product supplier and approved payment service providers.

Will I have a sub-account, separate bank account, or segregated account?

You as a client do not receive an individual bank account in your own name under the South African FSP licence held by the entity. Your funds are held in dedicated accounts maintained by payment service providers used by the product supplier.

These arrangements are designed to ensure:

  • Your funds are kept separate from the company’s operational funds

  • Your money is not used for business expenses

  • Payments are processed only through authorised channels

However, segregation does not mean that funds are held by Weltrade SA (PTY) Ltd itself.

Important clarifications on fund safety

While arrangements are in place for the proper safekeeping of your funds, this does not eliminate:

  • Market risk

  • Counterparty risk

  • Insolvency risk of the product supplier

The level of protection applicable to your funds depends primarily on the regulatory and financial framework of the product supplier holding the funds.

Key takeaways

Weltrade SA (PTY) Ltd acts solely as an intermediary under South African regulation. Your funds are held by engaged product suppliers and payment service providers, not by Weltrade SA (PTY) Ltd itself.
